| By the end of 2003, in Taizhou there had been 718 kindergartens, 843 primary schools, 225 junior high schools, 156 senior high schools (including normal and vocational senior high schools). With basic universalization of 15-year compulsory education, its enrollment rate of children into kindergarten reached 88.8%, that of school-age population into primary school 100%, that of disabled children 96.48%, and that of junior-high-school students into senior high |

| school 89.34%. Taizhou University had 50 majors and controlled 7,472 students. Taizhou Professional Technology College amalgamated with Taizhou Industry College had 20 majors including 2 experimental majors and controlled 4,348 students. Taizhou TV University had 11,549 in-school students. Taizhou Vocational College of Science was in preparation on the basis of amalgamation of Taizhou Agricultural School and Taizhou Teachers Training College. The cooperation agreement was signed between Taizhou and with Qinghua University on founding a postdoctoral scientific development base and a postgraduate exercitation base. |

| Striking performance was achieved in running schools by private power in Taizhou. Its total investment in running schools by private power reached RMB 2.3 billion, the educational institutions of that type 1,923 including 108 high schools 3 special training colleges and 1 vocational school, and its in-school student number summed up to 0.205 million. Taizhou Experimental School and other 2 schools were appraised as the fine private schools of provincial level. |

| Its educational quality was being improved ceaselessly. In 2003 its percentage of matriculates passing college entrance test reached 87.76% and its passage percentage of junior high-school students into senior high school 59.34%. In Taizhou existed 43 key high schools of provincial level including 9 provincially Grade-I high schools such as Taizhou High School. Linhai Huipu High School, Tiantai Yuying High School and Jiaojiang Sanmei High School are the characteristic senior high schools. In addition to 17 key vocational schools, including 6 provincially Grade-I vocational schools, Taizhou also had 12 demonstration junior high schools and primary schools of provincial level, and 11 demonstration kindergartens of provincial level. |

| In 2003 Taizhou had 163 “famed teachers and schoolmasters” of municipal level and 137 candidates for “famed teachers and schoolmasters “ of provincial level in addition to 47 provincially special-grade teachers and 3 provincially meritorious-deeds teachers. Jiaojiang, Huangyan, Wenling and Yuhuan was conferred the title of “Top Educational County of the Province”. Meanwhile, in Taizhou existed 67 provincially top educational towns and 94 municipal star educational towns. |
